OBJECT IDEA EXCHANGE: SEWANEE, TN
In the fall of 2018, the Automat Exchange Machine traveled to Sewanee: The University of the South for the inaugural Object Idea Exchange. With the interactive exhibit, Communication Station: Automated Exchange, visitors were encouraged to shape the conversation about Sewanee through shared objects. Students from local Sewanee Elementary also had an opportunity to hear Bryce McCloud – the Chief Executive of Mischief at Isle of Printing – speak on the studio’s various public art projects, before launching the Automat exchange.
As McCloud described, “The Object Idea Exchange is coming to Sewanee to facilitate novel conversations about the idea of community. We invite you to bring objects which embody ideas and stories about your Sewanee to trade for the same from other folks who live in your town. Through the shared experience of these objects, we hope to find pathways towards positive connections and a higher level of interpersonal communication between seemingly disparate groups.”

Back in Nashville, Workhuman brought the Automat out on stage to kick off its 2019 conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. Filled with treasures created by local artisans, the Automat invited those in attendance to share a piece of themselves and receive a piece of Music City in return! Thanks to the many IOP ambassadors who made it all possible including Jess Cheatham, Alex Lockwood, Mark Hosford, Ellie Caudill, and Third Man Records.
